ARMORY AT BRIGHTON CULTURAL CENTER GRAND OPENING PLANS UNDERWAY
Free Community Events, Facility Rental for Local Nonprofits

September 17, 2009

Brighton, CO--Planning is underway for a full week of free performances and events to celebrate the grand opening of the Armory at Brighton Cultural Center.

“We’re going to open the doors wide and invite the community to come experience their new gem while showcasing the best of our local talent,” said Jac Cuney, assistant executive director of the Brighton Urban Renewal Authority. “Along with the new library, the Armory will soon be a popular hub of creative activity, and an important anchor for downtown.”

In addition to grand opening festivities, the Armory will also be available at no cost to Brighton nonprofits and other local organizations for performances and events during the month of November. Starting in December standard rental rates will apply; however, all labor and equipment costs will be continued to be waived until 2010.

“This will give local nonprofit groups an opportunity to try out the Armory as a venue,” said Helen Rodriquez, operations manager. “It’s a lovely facility and will be versatile enough to accommodate a wide variety of cultural gatherings.”

Interested parties should contact Rodriquez at (303) 655-2026. If an organization plans to charge admission or host a fundraising event, it is suggested that a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the heART of Brighton Capitol Campaign to fund finishing touches at the Armory.

The Armory Grand Opening Community Showcase will be from October 23 to 29 and features:

An official ribbon cutting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 23 at the Armory, 300 Strong Street. RSVP with Erica Blake at (303) 655-2099.

Flag and building dedication at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 29.

Monday, October 26, 7 p.m.: “Suspenders” presented by Platte Valley Players
Tuesday, October 27, 7 pm.: BrightonMusic Choir and Orchestra

Friday, October 30, 7 p.m. “Armory Unmasked!” Halloween Party featuring music by DJ TidalWave and live music by The Jerseys.

Funding for the Grand Opening Community Showcase is being provided by the Brighton Urban Renewal Authority and a generous grant from the Brighton Cultural Arts Commission/Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.

A website for the Armory will be launched prior to the opening with more information about events and facility rental. The heART of Brighton capital campaign will continue through the end of the year to fund Armory renovations and interior finishes; see www.heartofbrighton.org.
