ART AT THE ARMORY

The Armory would like to thank all of the artists that have shown their work in the Theatre since the Grand Opening of the facility in October 2009.

The Armory at Brighton Cultural Center is pleased to announce the opening of the Spring Exhibit, featuring works by five art instructors from Brighton School District 27J!

The exhibit will be “opened” on Friday, March 19th, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Armory, 300 Strong Street (directly north of the new Anythink Library off of Bridge Street.) Come and meet the artists and get a personal perspective of the beautiful pieces that are on display!

Jayd Almquist

Jayd Almquist currently teaches art at Mary E. Pennock Elementary School. He works with text, chalks, ink, and “found” objects: his three-dimensional work is stunning! Jayd also works in watercolor and photography. He is a member of the Artists of Brighton, DenverArtists.com, and has shown at The Edge Gallery in Denver.

Keith Metz

Keith Metz, who teaches art at Northeast Elementary School, believes that everyone is an artist! Keith combines modernist approaches in an abstract way, expressing those feelings that we as people “carry around” with us the most. You may recognize his style from previous Art exhibits and shows around Brighton. His piece, “Delphiniums”, which won a Best of Show in Louisville in 2004, is on display with this exhibit.

Nathan Shaver

Nathan Shaver teaches at Prairie View Middle School. The artwork on display at the Armory this month includes studies and ideas for characters that he plans on using for a children’s book and additional work which is based on “the creative process and a way to be in that creative world for extended periods of time without over-thinking the experience.”

Jessica Forrestal

Jessica Forrestal teaches at Brighton High School. An abstract artist, she enjoys pushing boundaries and keeping her artistic options open. Jessica is a member of two online galleries: Daily Painters of Colorado and Daily Abstract Painters Gallery.

Lynette Helland

Lynette Helland is an art teacher at Brighton High School. Her teaching philosophy is based on her belief that it is through the Arts (including dance, drama, and music) that students excel. Her pieces in this exhibit, “Mustard Seed” and “The Kiss”, are examples of the collage and watercolor techniques that she uses in her teaching program.
